I'm new here, but want to say that this is a great site with alot of useful information. I need help locating a source forreplacement stripes on my 03 Road King. I have the black and silver anniversary edition, and am in need of a new silver stripe for the left saddle bag. Some dumbass backed into my bike the other day, and scratched the heck out of the left saddlebag. The bag is the only thing that was damaged. It will need to be stripped down, and repainted. Therefore I will need to replace the stripe. My local dealer told me that it is not available from H-D, but I have a hard time beleiving that. Anyone know if the stripe is available, and where I can get it. Thanks alot!!

 

I would guess that what they mean is that HD will not sell it to you. If you order a new saddlebag with the '03 paint on it.....it will come as new with the stripe on it.

That's what I would do......brand new saddlebag from HD. Only way the paints are going to match perfect, and you get the stripe.

Yes what Steve said. From what I've heard that's what you have to do. I know a guy that ran into the same problem, his neighbor backed into hisGold 03 Road King and scratched the tour pack. The neighbors insurance had to buy him a new tour pack. He got to keep the old one and ended up selling it on ebay.

 

I would agree with Maine and 04Roadking on getting a painted replacement bag from HD. Our local indy shop owner ran into a similar problem with his 03 anniversary edition ultra with the same paint scheme. He was wanting to paint and stripe his new "pull behind" trailer to match his bike, but found out from extensive checking, that he was simply out of luck when it came to gettingwhat he needed from HD. He finally had his PPG painter carefully match the paint (a older model foreign car paint code) and get as close to thestripe as his could get. By the way, if you look at the OEM stripe with a magnifying glass, you can see the embedded markings in the stripe is actually a patternwith the words Harley Davidson over and over....

 

Local print shop replicated '03 striping by digitally scanning the original. I could see NO difference when compared...much cheaper than ordering new bodywork from HD!

 

You will not believe the cost from H~D for a new bag. They do not sell the stripe.

 

I ran into a similar issue with my FLHTPI, the front fender has a 100th emblem under the paint, and the only way to get another is buy a new fender... needless to say I fixed the fender.

There is somebody out there making similar stripes, for the trike conversions, but they are not the HD ones and don't have the micro print on them. I never noticed the micro print till about 6 months after I converted from police to 03 Classic bodywork

 

I had to replace some painted parts (with the stripes) on my '03 Road Glide about a year ago and it was very difficult to get the MoCo to release them to my local HD dealer even then. They finally did but said thier supply was "running low" and because of some problem with the company that supplied them .. there would be no replacements. So HD saying they are not available, doesn't surprise me in the least. All you owners of '03's .. be careful out there.

 

Yup Lehman trike, they say Lehman Trikeinstead of Harley Davidson.


They came out with it to match the 03 stripe since Harley wouldn't sell them in 03,
and they are even selective about selling thier stripe.
