Python predator baffles wrap
I have the Comp 2.5 baffles in my python predator exhaust, I pulled them to put in the 1.5 baffles that I had bought, when I pulled the baffles no baffle wrap on the baffle, none came with the 1.5 baffles. Are the baffles suppose to be wrapped, there was ni sign of any material in the muffler?
Thanks

A lot of them don't come with wraps, the baffle is basically an insert to disturb the velocity of the exhaust, let alone baffle it. Depending on the baffle open or closed on the inside end, to actually baffle the sound you need one that's approx 10-12" long with as much space around it as practical, closed on the inside end and holes or slits along the entire surface excluding the last 1" having a slight bevel almost like a wad-cutter bullet tip. The longer 12" versions are easier to adjust the sound because you want to be able to wrap muffler packing around 2/3 of the slits/holes leaving the last 3" open closest to the taper with at least 1/2-3/8" or wrapping around the entire circumference of the baffle(s). The wrap should be thick enough around the baffle to make a tight fit as its being slid into the pipe. I've used steel braided wire to tie the wrapping down so it wont come apart while your slipping it into the pipe. You can start there for your first test run. Run it around town and at higher speeds. Observe the performance and sound. To make it louder you expose the slits/holes 1" at a time. This will make it louder allowing more exhaust to pass unhindered by sound deadening packing. I've exposed as much as 4" of unpacked baffle before resorting to drilling the closed end of the inside facing baffle (the center of the wad-cutter head almost making it a hollow point). First a 1/4", then slowly larger not to exceed 1-1/4" or you defeat the deadening effect of the wrapped packing. This is for each baffle as there should be two. If I went off on a tangent my apologies.

Wrap usually doesn't burn,it's made of some flame retardant chit. I've actually seen muffler wrap held together with masking tape right outta the box and the masking tape doesn't burn off just to show you how the wrap protected the tape. That would explain why it doesn't turn the pipe itself red hot. The more space around a baffle the louder the sound (lots of Blap! noise). Finding a good balance between proper sound deadening, tone and back-pressure performance is time consuming and often tedious.

Tucci, the baffle is about an inch or 2 shorter than the muffler itself, there is a small opening at the end that fits over or in a pipe that come out of the front of the pipe, so tomorrow I will try what you said. The 1.5 baffle I put in today made me loose bottom end torque, so I am going to go back to the 2.5 and wrap it.
