They are not that bad at a dealer. I looked at one due to mine randomly "speeding up".

They run about $130 on the OEM parts finder for them.

Are you sure it is the Speedo and not the cable or Drive unit on the front wheel?

Part # is 67349-96, so that means a speedo from 96-99 will work since they went to electronic in 2000. As stated above should be just over $100 at a discounter, if you're sure that's the problem I'd recommend going new for that old of part unless you find one cheap & guaranteed.

Have you pulled the cable inner right out and checked and cleaned it? If it is rusty at the lower end, a common problem, that alone will cause problems. If it is badly rusted replace the entire cable, don't waste any time on it.

The odometer works, the speedo does not... I can clock milage. Just don't know how fast I am going. The bike was laid down by previous owner so something probably broke. All the mounts for the windshield on the inner fairing were broken. It broke one of the steel upright mounts as well. Thanks for the info you guys! I appreciate it! Just really busy right now with spring, and hard to find time to get on here. Thankyou riteway for putting this question in for me! Trucker Gary

Yeah if it is clocking the mileage but not speed then it probably is dead. I would go for a new one that way the mileage will match.

Good time to get the inner fairing replaced and then painted. That is on my list for this winter.

Just replaced the inner fairing... doing paint next winter also. Once I have heat in the garage. Planning in pulling it out here in the next couple of weeks hopefully! I'm taking my drill with me to the swap this weekend.. we will see if theres a good one for sale out there. Just something to get me by for now on the cheap. So many projects going on.. so little time!

My '99 RK has an electronic speedo. I would double check what you have.
