Question Changing grips. What's the secret?

Looked easy, two screws, take the right side switch housing off, slide old grip off, new one on. Didn't work out that way. Got the switch housing loose and the grip still won't slide off. I was afraid I'd break something so I put it back together.
How do the damn grips come off anyway??

Thanks, Ride Safe

Many times there's an adhesive used and you need to slide a thin screwdriver then chase it around till it starts to twist off. Before you put a new set on don't use adhesive, clean the residue real good then put a layer of electrical tape around it similar to a candy cane strip then twist your new grip on and tie it down. Of course were talking about the left grip, the right one is self explanatory.

When I put the Avon grips on, I cut the factory grips down the middle from front to back long ways with a razor, peeled em right off. Slid new ones on tightened and ride

Hairspray on the handlebar where the left grip goes. It will hold and come off when you want it to.

Until you ride in the rain a few times and then they have a tendency to come off when you don't want.

Right grip will just slide off when you open the switch housing. Slide the new one on and tighten it up. My left grip i just twisted hard after opening the switch housing. It broke the glue bond and slid off. I installed the new one with RTV silicone. So far no slipping.

I just installed get a grip grips on my 08 ultra. The vids on utube make it look easier than what I experienced. On the left side I removed the two switch screws but couldn't get the switch seperated enough to remove the old grip, I had to remove the clutch handle housing too, slit the old grip with a razor blade and installed the new grip.
On the throttle side, same problem, had to remove brake lever housing to get switch housing to open enough to slip old grip off. new one can only go on one way. Still pretty easy mod, just the how to vids seemed easier.
i did use the wedge in the brake lever as to not break the brake switch.
