Insurance Update to last weeks accident thread
So for history, here is the original post..Glad to be here to tell this short story...
A few of you have wanted an update on how the insurance claim has gone. So, right now, I give GEICO an “A-“. The minus comes from a small hic-up resulting in a delay of a couple days in getting the adjuster out to the dealership where my bike is. When I made the claim they gave me the name & number of who would be looking at the bike. I had made the claim on a Sunday and they said someone should be out Monday. So I waited, no call, I waited til Thursday, still no call, so I decided to call them, turns out it slipped through the cracks so to speak because it was given to the wrong persons territory, the original person (the wrong one) personally gave it to the correct person and the damage inspection was done the next day. So I can’t complain about that, stuff happens sometimes. I am just glad I took the initiative to see what was up. They cut the check right there on the spot to the dealer & me, so all I had to do was go up and sign it over.
Meanwhile Classic HD of Leesport, PA ordered the parts and it looks like about a 6 week wait for parts. Now, they can’t guarantee it but they doubt it would be longer and COULD be shorter. The part they worry about the most is the pipe heat shield, V&H Big Shots. He said it’s harder to get one part like that then the whole exhaust system, which makes sense. But GEICO wouldn’t go for replacing the whole exhaust system. So that’s ok I guess, is what it is anyway. So, now it’s just the waiting game. The other thing is they can’t schedule it til they get all the parts in, so I hope they aren’t backed up in service too much then. We have a weekend ride already planned & reserved for the 2nd weekend in June, so we SHOULD still be able to make it. SO hopefully it will continue to go well.
The estimate was quite a shock, about $8k, turns out as someone had suggested, there was frame damage, the tab where the engine guard bolts up cracked. So that includes a frame replacement. I was surprised, in a good way, to hear it’s only a 20 hour job.
EDIT...oh yeah, they even covered replacing the saddle bag lid cover & my engine guard chaps.

Thanks for getting back to us. As I said in the other thread, I'm thinking about switching to Geico and wanted to know how they handle paying a claim.
Glad to hear your ordeal is working out for you. Did the insurance find out you had a video of the crash? Did they make an issue about it?
I agree, I got hit by a guy in the mid 90s and the bike repair was complete except for the new tank which was months out. I rode all summer with a dented tank and went back when the tank came in.

Painted parts is always the longest wait. I laid my 2009 FLHTCU June, 2011 and had the bike back in five weeks, good as new. Still a tough wait, especially when the weather finally warming up. Make sure Classic knows not to hold up the job for the heat shield, can always been put on another time. Glad your wife and you are OK.

And by the way, they are even covering my saddle bag lid covers & engine guard chaps. The only issue I would have is they wouldnt cover our leather if it was ruined, but its only got scuff marks which will go to serve as reminders and stories for the future. They would cover helmets, but not leather, which doesnt really make sense to me, leather is still a safety item. I believe other companies, like Riders do cover boots & jackets. But again, for us, its a non-issue in this instance.
