So if you've been following my never ending quest for the perfect sounding HD you will notice I have spent a lot of time trying different mufflers. I got to my present switch this afternoon and the used V&H Monster Rounds just won't go over the head pipes. Just had the last set of mufflers on there for about 2 horrifying weeks and they slipped off. Tried to slip the used set of monsters on there on and they go on about 1/4" and aside from a sledge how am I to get them on? Lots of Movit and anti seize were used I'd like to add. Do I have to take it to a muffler shop?
Thanks
Hmmmmm, maybe call Vance and Hines see what they say? I would think most head pipes are the same diameter so one would think that slip ons will be a universal fit.....?
Just my .02
Since they're used, its possible that the previous person clamped down on the exhaust clamp & dimpled the muffler extension. Some auto parts places will rent you a pipe expander for a few bucks. Go slow with the expansion tool.
I just had this problem yesterday with cfr kos slip ons ... got aggravated ... ended up having wife hold the slip on in place and used a block of wood on end cap and did a couple of whaps with a sledge .... they are on and didn't seem to do any damage .... : )
Couple of bucks at Harbor Freight for the medium size pipe expander. You will probably need it also if you ever have to remove and re-install the crossover piece that goes under the bike.
