Default Rain sock or not ?

Just added a Harley air filter end cover to the bike which exposes the the entire filter element. Do I need to use a rain sock with this set up? Rain sock isn't much $26.00. I'll pick one up later this week and a chrome backing plate too. If I do get caught in the rain before I pick one up, should I just cover with a bandanna? Or will it be OK as is for a short distance?

Some people use em and some don't. Some say they don't keep out the water. I dunno. I just went to the Agitator air cleaner and it came with a sock. Not sure how effective it might be in heavy rain though. I hope my lowers and faring will help in that situation.

I have the HD heavy breather and have never had the sock on. Ridden in many storms and have never had an issue.

I keep my rain sock on the majority of the time as it keeps bugs out of the pleats if you have a K&N type filter, I wouldn't worry about the rain...

I keep mine on all the time, I like the look better with it on, and I don't have to worry about rain or bugs.

I put the sock on mine this time, I can tell you that water does not compress like air does in a cylinder !! why take the chance is my opinion. In addition to riding, if the bike is sitting out in a storm, I can get a visual on that rain soaking in to the FI system and getting into the cylinders when started. Not a good thing at all. It does also keep the bugs outa the pleats.
