Remove Packing From Rush Slip-Ons: Yay or Nay?
My Rush Slip-Ons, w/2" baffles, are going to be used in conjunction with Big City Thunder QQ baffles (installed at the exit end of the head pipe).
With this combination, what would be the effects of removing the fiberglass packing from the Rush slip-ons?
Thanks

Thanks for choosing Rush! The fiberglass matting helps reduce the "tinny" sound and creates a more solid note. Without it the area between the baffle and muffler shell sort of acts like an echo chamber. Also helps insulate the muffler shell from exhaust heat. What sounds good is an opinion so I can't tell you if it will sound better or worse. We recommend not removing the matting.

As I mentioned, I will be using your slip-ons with Big City Thunder QQ baffles installed in the head pipe.
Not sure if you're familiar with BCT's products, but their QQ baffles help deepen/quiet the exhaust note.
Having said that, it seemed like the combination of their baffles with your packing removed might eliminate any tinny/unpleasant sound.
Thoughts?

I don't have first hand experience but I know about them. Haven't had a chance to hear in person how they can change the sound. I suggest trying it with the matting first. Some people really like the sound without the matting. Might as well try it both ways to see what will produce the tone you're trying to achieve.
Generally the 2.00" baffle produces better overall performance than any other baffle size (on bikes with out a catalytic converter). Based on that I don't see how the QQ baffles can improve performance. After watching some youtube videos they really seem to create a deeper more aggressive sound. Hopefully some other forum members can help out with first hand experiences.

For what its' worth, I think my 1.75 inch Rush's are louder everywhere except idle with packing, and quieter everywhere except idle without. Odd, yes, but again, just my observation. They have a nice "echoy" rumble without packing when you are coasting or let off the gas so that's kind of cool, but I like the sound with packing better, overall.

Sound is a very subjective matter.... especially pleasing exhaust notes.....
I love my Rush pipes... have had two sets.... but I couldn't stand the way they sounded with the packing in. To me they sounded kind of "hollow"
After taking the packing out it gave it the deeper/ slightly louder rumble I wanted.
I had the 2" on my old bike, and honestly can't see the reason to add any sort of other baffle to it...... not to say they wouldn't improve sound or not....
but the difference between the 2" and 2.25 I have now is quite noticeable in both the overall volume and the increased low end torque that the 2" had...
The 2" has significantly more "jump" as soon as you roll on the throttle than the 2.25.... but when you turn up the RPM the 2.25 shine better.... I just got tired of everytime I hit the gas my head got snapped back and every time I let off my wife head butted me.... but....... I'm rambling.
