Default Need Tips On Mounting Fairing Mount Mirrors

Going to put some fairing mount mirrors on my Ultra. I bought some on flea bay and while they seem to be well made there was no template or instructions so I was hoping someone that has done this can give me some tips before I drill into my painted inner fairing!!! I know this might be a dumb question but need some input.

Just did mine. The template cannot be purchased by itself. I went to the local dealer and got a Xerox copy of the template from a service tech, it worked well enough. I still have it if you want it. Btw, I raised the mounting points 3/4", and I don't look at my knuckles when I check the mirrors.

I second the raising the mounting points above what the template shows, I did mine according to template and they were useless, ending up looking at my knuckles, now I have plugged holes in the fairing because I had to move them up. Wish I would of seen this advise before mounting mine.

I installed Wild Ones WO575 and now the mirrors I have look dumb plus they hang out too far on the sides of the fairing. Good advice JustPlainJohn and I will do so accordingly!

I raised mine 1/2 an inch and thats not enough.I would go 3/4 like the other guy said above the template. The 1/2 inch works and looks good still but 3/4 would make them more functional.

I've found that raising them 1" is just right for me.

Be careful when tightening the nut!!!!! Mine broke with very little torque. Yes I did have a torque wrench and got no where near the recomended number. Ended up drilling two holes in the plastic surrounding the stud....and using sheet metal screws. Worked ok.

Here's a link to a template. I believe another member posted it some time back....

Definitely watch over tightening,as that plastic carriage bolt/screw will easily snap off. I used the template and yes it was too low of a mounting location for me also. Lucky for me I put some 14" MBB on there and now the mirrors are perfect. For the record I did snap one of my bolts off. I then took a rasp and ground off the whole bolt and down into the plastic housing enough to epoxy a new metal stud in there. It actually worked well and I was able to torque that thing down with no fear.
