Default Thinkin About more Power

I have been looking at all the responses for several months after my purchase of an 06 SG.I've gotten lots of good info from this group....Thanks.Now I find myself wanting more....Did the usual Stage 1 upgrade(Rinehart duals,Terry T2,Sert,AC)that's been Ok.My question is why is a 95" priced from 1800 up t 5200....have called several places..R&R,Cyclerama,GMR and its all over the place for pricing.I ride solo and 2 up mostly commute to work and 150 /250 on weekends.I am looking at 100/100 range like everybody else at a good price ,hope you guys can help with some ideas.By the way this is my first poste. I know just enough to get in trouble so I need someone to do mechanical work....dont trust my ability...thanks for any imput.

Wow kinda supprised not too many takers well this is my build list.Port/Polish heads to 95" 100/100and torque plate bore, hone cyl,set trin gap and do a bore on throttle body and intake manifold...cost for this 980.00 to 1300...Hard parts 95'forged pistons, geardrive cams/new bearings ,performance lifters Adj pushrod /tubes,heavy valve sprngs...1.90 intake and 1.63 exhaust valves heavy duty studs and bronze valve guides.....parts 1850 to 2100...then have it assembled for r/r of 1100....seems like a lot to me any suggestions where go todo the same for less with 100/100 as final result??????R&R said 3800 for the stage 2 1/2 kit cyclerama is at 4000 for same...GMR 2900 for 98 kit then need assembly another grand.Looking to stay 9.5 to 9.8 compression and have good pull from 2800 up to redline, really dont want to change pipes and stuff I already have.Just lookin for some input from all the engine gurus ou there ...Thanks..D

i run GMR 98" stage II with R&R cast heads and HP TB...Phil runs the same 98" with HQ heads and 0039 cam and makes lots of power...both are over your desired comp ratio and both have no probs startin or pingin...to get to 100/100 on the cheap or at least cheaper than your list of parts would be easy...great heads and cam, simple 95" with local bore job...good tune...in for 3 to 35 you doin labor....you can do much cheaper and get real close to your mark by havin the basic head clean up, cc & .030 gasket with the right cam on your 88, like one of the Kury Wild Thang cams...you already chunked the factory exhaust, eh

The hardest part of doing a budget build is paying someone else the labor to do it. The labor itself is going to cost as much as the parts themselves.

Here are some prices for parts/services -

Big Boyz Head Porting/Polishing of your stock heads - $299
Big Boyz stock cylinder boring - $130
Big Boyz CC'ing and Milling of your stock heads - $95
SE Flat Top Pistons - $140
Gear Driven Cams (complete kit)- approx. $600
Gaskets - approx. $110

Now the big thing is to figure out what cam you are going to use and set the heads up for those cams. You are pretty safe up to about 10-1 compression and won't have to use releases. To get to 100/100.....you are going to have to choose your cam wisely, Woods TW-6G, Head Quarters HQ-0039G, Andrews 37G, and there are others also.

I did my current build, listed in my signature below, last fall and I'm already looking into changing a few things up for more power. But I'm able to do all the work myself and not have to pay anyone.....which saves me a ton of money.

Good Luck,

Steve

Bryan's right... heck, even I can do it!

You might also wanna holler @ Head-Quarters. 105/110 is easy with a 95". 110/110 is not too tuff if you build it right!
