I did it myself, by the time I was done (original 13" ape purchase was 85$ for the bars) it cost me about 1500$. New cables (braided, but I have ABS so they are more $$) new wires, new brake levers (changed to black), had my inner fairing painted, but I also had my gauges worked on (laser etched and the chrome rings replaced for black) and that was half the cost.

The hardest part is removing/installing the keylock, but if your careful it goes back in easily.

Follow the threads on here and it will help alot.

So, here in the real world, what did this sort of project cost you?
And at what height do I need to get new clutch cables, brake lines, wires, etc...

I have a 2012 FLHX and I'm looking at 10" or 12" bars.
I paid around 175 delivered for the KhromeWerks fat bagger apes for my FLHX.

I do not have a complete list of pieces parts, but the Magnum cables were another 300 or so. I do not think I was much over 500 - if at all.

How many hours were quoted? Most dealers that I know of quote less than 8 hrs labor for a batwing bar swap.

Even at 8 hours, that quote should not have been over 1200.

I had the dealer do my WO575's on the Limited, $250.00 for bars and 4' over clutch cable and $525.00 labor with extending all wires except TBW and heated grip wires.

I say tackle this yourself, save the labor. All it requires is some patience (especially with internal wiring getting it fished through the bars). Honestly it was easier than I thought!

Hardest part for me was getting the shark-nose fairing back on straight...
