Ever look up what 5 microns is. I did its virtually the size of a blood cell. Its typical Harley Marketing bullshit! K&N will serve you just fine!

Not sure I understand your logic here, can't see it therefore not a problem???

As all machinery, including engines, benefit from tighter machining tolerances so filtration ratings become increasingly important. I specialise in hydraulics and deal with this daily,

There is no way I would deviate from HD spec, especially when the cost benefit is pennies and the risk is clear. Not fussed whether you use HD or any other REPUTABLE brand, but don't use a different rating. Also, make sure it is absolute rating and not nominal

I've used the K&N oil filter for the past 10 years without any oil related issues. Just do a search and you will find this has been discussed many times then make up your own mind.

There is a good article in the latest edition of American Iron on oil filters. It might be worth picking up and reading.

That's all I have ever used on all my vehicles for over 15 years. The K&N is top quality, designed for today's synthetic oils and most of all, its a lot easier to install and remove.

Publicity will not explain the reliability of the filter's built-in back pressure limiting (by-pass) valve to remain well seated nor its repeatability to seal during harsh vibrations.

Specifications for "Particulate Contamination" are not measured in a climatic chamber providing variable temperature and changing acceleration-gravitational conditions. Such "real" 5 micron filters do exist but at a different cost.

People who understand the above may better accept what is offered on the market.

My Indy recommends K&N filters, use them 100% of the time.
What I feel is important, is using the scavenger oil change method to get all the dirty oil out of the sump when you do change your oil. I get about 30 oz of dirty oil out using that method, I can't see leaving that in the sump to mix with fresh oil when it is changed as normal. Just my .02

A 5 micron filter in any H-D motor is absurd. I've maintained equipment with super tight tolerances that only require a 10 micron filter - an H-D motor doesn't even come close to those tolerances. Particuliarly when they'll allow as much as .020 for crank run-out...sheesh.
And...they can make claim to 5 micron all they want but a true 5 mic. filter doesn't sell for a measly $10 ($12 for chrome).
