Default Adjusting Aux Lamps

I've got one aux lamp that is projecting higher than the other. Service manual says I need a special "flare nut socket" or somesuch from Snap-On - which is like $45 for a one-time use. Also, I admit that I am not "clueing-in" to how the manual instructs one should go about even getting to said nut. Do I get to it from below by removing the turn signal/housing? Checking inside the aux lamp housing shows only what appears to be the top of the adjusting nut. Any help/insight from those who've done it would be very much appreciated.

Get a regular 9/16 deep socket and cut a channel out of it with a Dremel or the like, for the wires.

Here is a pict of the one I cut -- it an't pretty but it works.

Or - I was able to "adjust" mine by tapping with a rubber mallet with a balled up rag. Not very scientific but they will move if they are not too tight. Side to side was easy by just holding with both hands and turning.

Thank you gentlemen. Very helpful info. Just realized I'd done a search for the "flare nut socket" on my phone awhile back. The Snap-on part is FRX181, and it's a 9/16". Even though I have a rubber mallet, it looks like I have a little dremel-ing in my future. That's a great idea taking a channel out of a spare deep socket.

Again - thanks all.

I made one of these years ago out of a .99 pawn shop Craftsman socket. Works just like the 45.00 Snapon real thing.

I did the same thing, cut a cheap 9/16 deepwell socket. I adjust, and just snug the nuts, so they stay put, but can be nudged slightly when needed......steve

I am too much of a lazy bugger so I just grab hold and tweak them where I need them to point. Since most of the time they only need to move a little bit I have never had a housing dent or cave in.This method has worked for me since 1985. Yes I know I am a lazy stupid ape.

I cut an old socket to , and it is a PITA to adjust them and retighten..

I also kept then somewhat tight, but with a little brute force can still move them

not a good design

Do I have to get into the housing of the light itself? So basically remove the trim and light?
