Now why don't it show that in the damn service manual....
The parts manual shows the stacking of the following parts:
- the passing light housing comes with a long and captive hollow bolt
- a spherical swivel block sits under the housing
- then a large flat washer spreads the load over the chrome bracket
- a second spherical clamp block is used under the bracket
- then comes the mounting bracket of the turn signal
- and finally the nut

I put a touch of Molykote grease over the spherical surfaces because they were already corroded when the bike was new.

Sage advice on not pinching the wire (it's actually a single gray wire powering the passing lamp) that runs through the hollow bolt. It's easy to get it sandwiched between the turn signal housing and turn signal base during reassembly and if pinched it will likely split the insulation and ground out, blowing your headlight fuse when the passing lamp switch is on, taking out all of your front illumination lighting.
One thing Harley ought to do, and I want to try to do do myself, is put the passing lamps and headlamp on different circuits.

Again I say, a dumb crappy design!
It's no wonder why so many people ride around with the passing lamps pointed in every direction. Most are that way straight from the factory. And the pattern recommended in the manual is no good either - just adjust 'em where YOU want 'em!

Nobody is disagreeing. Making them like the head lamps would cost more. It all matters to the bean counters and there bosses.
