88 to 95, Is it really worth it?

Fact.....cams are the best bang for the buck. For about the same price as the stage 1, you get 10 more HP and 10 more TQ. More or less.
If you do a harley big bore, you get the same results as the cams, but at 1-1/2 times the price.
If you do them both, at the same time, with the right combination of parts, you will save a little cash over doing them seperately and you will have big smiles guaranteed.
Oh, and by the way, faster does not mean less reliable. 100/100 does not push the integrity of the twin cam engine.

HD's 2007 P&A book shows the 95" BB stage II kit listing at $1000; the accompanying dyno sheet shows it gets 75 hp and 85 torque which drops rapidly after 4000 rpm. Plus you will need to pay for a download or tune, plus the labor to install it or learn to do it yourself. It will certainly feel better than the stock 88 you now ride, but a set of cams would give you the same or better performance depending on the quality of tune for about 1/2 what you would have in a Stage II BB kit and installation.
I did like xxxxflrci; did the cam swap on my stock 88 when my tensioners needed to be replaced.
It's your bike;we all have our own priorities and interests; nobody is "right" or "wrong"in what they do with their bikes.

Great info in just a few hours.....THANX! Might have to be the cams....! Better to go HD cams or try the Andrews/Woods/somebody else's? Can I keep the Term Veocity or does that get replaced by WHAT?
Thanks so much for the great help! This is so easy to get info, OI wish I had known about the forum earlier. Also, where could I get a good briefing on the cam change? I have the service manual.
Respect to all....

http://www.harleyhog.co.uk/ This website has some good photos and such on changing cams, tensioners and doing a 95 build. There are several other sites out there as well. It is very easy to do once you get going and you do not really need all the fancy tools that the service manual says you do.

I know a few riders that think the same way, In your case I would say hold on to the 88 when it gets about 50 K miles do the big bore and you will think your on a new bike . More snow here today.
