GPS mounting options - anyone try these?
Looking at different options to mount my Garmin 550. Also looking for ways to keep several small items handy which I used to carry in a tank bag on my old LT. Picked up my new 2012 Ultra last November and I just can't bring myself to drill any holes yet. Anyone try one of these http://www.tandtfabrications.com/products.html ? Grateful for any other ideas.

Picked up an older version of the HD handlebar mount and combined those parts with a Garmin 340LM (non-HD GPS Model) which is a generic model but with newer technology for display quality, over other options. Suffice to say I think it looks good, is handy and can reach easily on the clutch side and can bend to avoid direct sunlight, and did not drill into fairing. Eventually plan to paint inner fairing an may relocate then. Wired it through clutch cable into fairing and wired into accessory switch so easy power access without wiring all the way along backbone to rear fuse panel. Can post some pics if you want. The newer version of the handlebar mount is :

My Nuvi 550 mount as viewed from the seat.
I mounted that thing by drilling 2 holes through a suction mount and then drilling matching holes through the windshield. This is a view from the front, call it the back side, of the windshield.
I found it easy to make that mount and actually mount my Nuvi that way with no issues. I used stainless steel machine screws and nylock nuts to keep everything the way it should be. I also used rubber grommets to prevent over stressing any points on the windshield by providing lots of cushioning for engine vibrations. Note please, your mileage may well vary. I am not a design engineer and just looked for a practical solution for myself, not one that I am confident to recommend to other people.
