self cancelling turn signals?

They cancel with distance not by turn angle like cars. They have a microprocessor that works in conjunction with the speedometer. I don't know when Harley went to self-cancelling signals but my first Harley with them was a 1991 Ultra. So I'm pretty sure your '01 should have them. Could be just a blown fuse.

Another possibility is that a previous owner has done what I have, disconnected the darned thing! I found they switched off at times when I didn't want them to. On my 1990 bike there is a white/green wire connected to the back of the speedo. It has a double-insulated plastic connector and can be safely disconnected to disarm the cancelling.

If you succeed in fixing the system, I'd be curious to hear how you like the auto operation. On every machine I have had with an auto system, it required too much "baby sitting" as they would cancel before I wanted them to or not cancel soon enough requiring my input to cancel. I found it easier to disable the system and take full responsibility for the signals. Not too difficult s habit to develop.

The first few years of the Electronic speedometer also used pulses similar to the reed switch to measure the distance.
Your's may have gone bad and not sensing the signal. But I would bet that there is just a problem in the connections.
I believe it is the Green/White wire that carries the signal.
