I went through this several years ago, my issue was compounded by trying to keep the wife comfortable. I borrowed a friends HD Hammock seat and she really liked it, no squirming or complaining on an all day ride. I bought the seat, cannibalized the backrest bracket, and made a unit that bolts directly to the seat pan, the backrest comes off with the seat, is still adjustable. For some reason I do not require the backrest on my Danny Grey seat, it is ade to accept one, the seat is cut out low and forms a ridge at the back, it's enough to keep my back from hurting.
