OK, I just got off the phone with the service manager
at thunder mountain HD in Colorado.
Is he telling me true or blowing smoke.
The 0903 ECM update pertains to only 07 bikes.
HDMOCO was hearing a lot of complaints from people experiencing excessive noise.
He says it really isn't excessive, but people weren't used to hearing it as it is a combination of a redesigned TC engine and the 6 speed tranny.
And what it does in effect is remap the torque output to quiet this down!
And a standard stage 1 d/l does not address this issue.
But a full race tuner does.
(at least he didn't suggest louder pipes).
So what do you all think?

RE: Stage 1 Download and 0903 ECM Update
I remember reading, that Harley redesigned the cut on the gears on the 6 speed.
to make for quicker, smoother and more insured shifting.
Personally I don't completely buy the story that an ECM software download is
going to quiet down what appears to be a mechanical issue.
some people are complaining of clattering, but is it engine or tranny related.
If engine and it will do it while sitting still at idle and or reving up a mechanics
stethoscope can at least help pinpoint where the noise is originating from.
Be nice to get more info on this.

The download just adjusts the timing slightly to give a smoother torque curve. As far as noises you being "new" missed the hundreds of posts on the subject. You should search the subject 07 tranny noise for answers if your curious.

Yep, I would hope that the download wouldn't muffle the "5th gear indicator sound" that we have all grown to appreciate so much!
Seriously though, I had the 0903 update performed a month or so ago, and getting underway is much improved due to the timing change. It's been a worthwhile update for me, and I still have all the sweet transmission sounds that I had before!
