Default Road Glide exhaust

Hi Folks,

First, I am a new "gray haired" Harley owner, and new to this forum.
I have an 05 Road Glide with the detachable king tour pak. I love this bike!!

I just had the 1000 mile service done and had the Screamin Eagle air filter, downloads, and SE downslash slip-ons installed.
My wife thinks the new mufflers are too loud. She loved the quietness of the stock exhaust.

My question: what. if anything, would I have to do if I put the stock mufflers back on? Would I have to do another remap, remove the SE air cleaner, or would I be good to go just installing the mufflers? Other than the noise, what other effects might I notice?

This forum is great, and I did look for an example similar to my problem, but didn't really find one that answered my question directly.

Thanks for the help,
kar

Welcome to the forum, Kar. I'm not exactly sure what the answer to your question is but have you considered ear plugs for the wife? Or a full helmet? These will cut the noise considerably and will let you keep your pipes. Sorry to hear you might have to take them off. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I hope I don't have to take the SE's off. But, I wanted to know what it would require, just in case.

You should be able to put the stock back on and remap. You can leave the air cleaner on but you wont get its full effectivness with out the freeer flowing exhaust. There will be a small drop in performance but it will be exagerated by your mind [:-] . However wearing earplugs is a good idea!

Thanks for the reply. Doesn't sound like too big of deal to put the stock back on. Ear plugs for her sound like a good idea also. But, I do have to keep her happy. After-all, she gave me her blessing to buy the bike!

You definitely have to keep her happy. That's the main thing...cause if she's not happy, you're not happy.

Leave the new pipes on. She will get used to them after a short while. Remember

There's always "honey, it can't be done!"

You can put the stock mufflers on and leave the airfilter with the upgraded download that you had done. The other way around If you put the stock intake on and left the exhaust it would be a bit rich.

Earplugs.

All the smart bikers where them. (I'm not one of them, 'cause I like to hear the radio).

Get her some of those, it will make it nicer with the wind noise as well.
