From an artistic angle it looks sweet but I have a couple of questions about this and similar ones. Is there a functional benefit in tq or hp for these intakes above and beyond just using a low restriction filter (K&N)? Also, for someone who has one, what happens when you are riding in rain/slop?

Generally open air cleaners arent a problem in the rain, mine has much more exposed and never a problem. The filters are oiled as well so water tends to bead off, and especially when you are moving there isnt that much water anyway.

Spike air cleaners dont offer any better performance than any other free flowing ACs.

If that's the look ya are after, go for it. Any of the Hi flow A/C will give ya more flow that a stage 1(even 2) motor can use. I'm pretty sure spike comes from China?

I'm sure it does come from china. I would like to have the SE heavy breather but don't like the price of a brand new one. This is cheap enough I can run it for a cpl yrs or more it looks cool then I can buy a new SE or a used one if I can find one. Just wanted some opinions on it it says its all billet aluminum so I shouldn't have to worry abut rust. Thanks guys think I'm going to order it.
