Default Which K&N Filter to replace Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 (18-512)?

Hey folks,

I'm looking to replace the filter element that came with my Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 (p/n: 18-512).

Which K&N Filter has the correct hole pattern to match up to the Ness backing plate?

Thanks.

I just started looking for this myself. Search turned up K&N p/n HD-0800 which looks correct. Same one for the SE stage I air filter I believe.

The K&N HD 0800 has a different hole pattern.

I think it's for the Big Suckers that fit Sportsters (and maybe Dynas).

Use the Ness replacement filters, or the stainless steel one, like this.
A bit on the pricey side though.

Well, hopefully someone in the know will chime in here. My Big Sucker is also p/n 18-512 so I'm looking for the same one. I see the difference now, two holes should be close to the edge and one near the center. The HD-0800 has one hole near the edge, one off the edge and one near the center. That one above has four holes so i know that won't work.

I don't think your not going to find another element that has the same hole pattern as the AN element. That's why they made them that way, so you have to pay the big money for the AN elements.

K&N HD-8018 fits 08-up throttle body bolt pattern

K&N HD-0800 fits 07-earlier throttle body bolt pattern

Amazon has the HD-0818 for $43.52 shipped.

Garemlin have you tried the HD-0818 with a Big Sucker? The hole pattern is correct but are the heights and diameters correct?

I'm measuring the AN filter and it's sizes are closer to the HD-0800, 6 1/4 base x 2 1/8 tall. The HD-0818 is 6 base and 2 5/16 tall.

I'm starting to agree with lion, the AN filter would probably be the safest choice.

Even when I had the AN element & their backing plate, I had to elongate two of the holes on the element front plate so they would line up correctly with the standoff bolts.

Sorry no. I have used it with another aftermarket back plate and it worked. I was thinking that the height may end up being the issue.
