Default decals?

what is everybody's thoughts on vinyl on motorcycles instead of paint? my buddy does vinyl decals i.e. gun manufacturers, hd decals, work vehicles, pretty much anything. i'm thinking this may be a cheaper rout than getting the bike painted. opinions?

If done right they look good. Done right, in my opinion, means you clear coat over them.

do it and post pictures so we can check it out... i'm interested in what this would look like. Are you just talking emblems or are you talking like wrapping the tins as opposed to painting them?

Not a wrap. Adding flames, or some type of design to it. Hells Foundry makes a stripe that goes from the fairing to the tank, side covers, bags. Something like that, but nicer.

To clear coat over them? Is that something I can do myself?

I'm having a tank done right now, with genuine HD decals clear coated over, but that is what I want, not a custom design. Stock Harley decals tend to be very thin, so once they are clear coated they blend with the surface of the tank, so I suggest that is what many of us will expect. There are probably custom decal designers already out there doing this, so you can take a look over their shoulders, so to speak!

Check with a good vinyl wrapper, they can make some crazy graphics, and just cover small sections, or all of the bike. I had several trucks wrapped for my business and after 4 years we simply peeled off the vinyl right off, easy cheesy, paint was bright and fresh underneath with zero residue. I thought it was going to be a difficult mess, but it really wasnt.

Sticker go on helmets only. Iv seen stickers clear coated over and they still look like stickers. Old timers call em sticker bikes. Nothin new under the sun.
