Default California Law Exhaust Question

Hello All,

I'm in the market to purchase an exhaust for my 2011 Road King Classic.

Two questions...

I like the Vance & Hines Fishtail pipes. I see that there is a fishtail 2 also. Does anyone know the difference between both?

Are these pipes too loud that I would get a ticket?

Thanks!

I have been running Samson fishtails without baffles for years. I have never had an issue with them.

The new California law only pertains to bikes manufactured after Jan 1, 2013.

In Cal, most highway patrol could care less about Harley's with loud pipes, however each local police usually have their own marching orders.

Usually the beach communities are the most sensitive to loud motorcycles that wrap their throttle to make there presence known. Then the police also make their presence known.

yup,

stay away from places like Newport Beach- anywhere that the high school parking lot has more Benz's than Utah

You should hear the pipes that Oakland PD has. Just dont goose it like an assphat going through intersections and be respectful in neighborhoods and you wont get hassled.

a violation is considered a secondary offense, meaning a police officer can’t stop a motorcyclist solely because the officer believes the motorcyclist is breaking the sound emissions label law.

I dont see any Fishtails 2 on the V & H site. They have the 3" Fishtail slip ons and they have Fishtail ends for the Big Shot Duals that are a 2 1/2 pipe

Like others have said as long as your not abusive with twisting the throttle to get attention you probably wont have a problem

Stay out of Coronado they have detectors and will write you for loud exhaust no matter what year it is!
