Question Help w/ H-D garage door opener

I need some help with the install of the H-D garage door opener that works by hitting the high beams (part #91558-01A). In the instructions under "Harness Connection" for my FLHX (section 2 under Touring Models) it says, "See figure 9. Cut the yellow(6), black(4), and white(5) headlamp wires inside the fairing......." In section 3 it says, "See figure 15, the 2 into 1 splice configuration. Use a red splice connector (Figure 27, item 4) from the kit to slice the black garage door opener transmitter wire to the black wires (emphasis mine) from the headlamp........" My issue is that the black wire (item 4 in figure 9) cut in section 2 is a single wire w/ a factory connector which comes from the wire harness and not from the headlight. My question is do I connect the black wire from the transmitter to the black wire identified as (4) in figure 9? (Which would not be a 2 into 1 splice) Or is the intent to cut the black wire from the headlight and do a 2 into 1 splice as your supposed to do with the yellow and white wires from the headlight? I hope I stated my situation clear enough that someone can help me out. Thanks!

I have read about a similar installation problem here on the forum.
I have searched in the forum and found numerous threads but cannot find an installation thread for the HD Opener.

Perhaps someone with first hand experience will be along shortly.

Best of luck.

don't over think it. black ground, yellow low beam, white high beam. The unit just needs those signals to work, spliced in right behind the headlamp. I have had 1 10 years and 5 bikes, love it. Mike

Ditch that overpriced trinket. Go to Home Depot and get a keychain garage door remote, put a little square of Velcro on the back with another tucked up under the left side of your tank or low and out of sight on your fairing. The savings will buy you a dozen tanks of high octane or a few decent meals out. Find a tiny HD sticker to put on it if that helps.

Since black is ground any black wire will work. Choose the one you like and splice in. You will love how easy this is to use and worries about about having to fiddle with stick on openers that are not water proof

Default Thanks!

@ rme115 and 03dragonRk- thanks a lot for the help!

@ jerkedaround- I appreciate your sentiment, but what are these things other than $25K+ trinkets? What's another hundred bucks?

Blacks Ground...Straight to the battery...That's why the wire on the harness is shorter, cause it only needs to reach the battery compartment

Hey if its installed good for you but there are many more options that are a fraction of the price. I modded my remote to work off the AUX switch on the inner fairing but since then a
Company called MO-Door makes one that cost 60 bucks and if you dont like the button wire it to the aux. Easy and cheap. F@ck that high low beam BS haha.
