After about 700 miles on my FM 107" big bore kit install I began getting a very noticeable knock in the front cylinder. I took a stethoscope to the motor and I'm fairly confident the noise is coming from the intake side of the front head. Before I began to disassemble the top end, I went ahead and thoroughly inspected the bottom end and cam chest to make sure everything was ok. After checking the crank run out (.003 not great, but not what I'm hearing) cam bearings, tensioners, cams, lifters, pump, push rods and rockers, everything looked great!...Talked to Jamie and he suggested I first add a little preload to the push rods which I did but unfortunately, no change...So, bike just went back up on the lift and I'm going to remove the entire top end and go from there...The motor had 10K miles on it when I did the upgrade and I'm hoping it's something as simple as a valve guide...

Agreed. If you did something dumb, share. Kind of like group therapy. We'll all feel better.

Knocking and tapping prominent in the front head when checked with a stethoscope, I'm thinking it was a misadjusted pushrod...Just my thought though.

Removed rocker boxes, push rods and cams, everything looks real good. I will be picking up a dial indicator in the morning. Checking the crank will tell all...thanks, I'll keep you posted

Did you pull the heads yet and check the valve guides? I know you originally posted you were hoping this would be it.

I am curious to what it ends up being, been considering this build on my bike.

Could be a rod bearing. Just take a look when you get the top end off.

I made the mistake of installing the pistons in the wrong direction. So they would slap each other at the bottom of the stroke and then hit the valves on up stroke.

Bet you heard that as soon as you fired it up the first time.
