Drive Belt Squeak/Noise, Fact Or Fiction?
#21
I'm Dumbfounded.
There's no doubt the rubbing is coming from the belt, I put it up on a lift and spun the wheel, its coming from the inside where the belt meets the inner pulley. I have not used belt dressing but everything else that was suggested to no avail. Short of taking it to the dealership I don't know what else I can do.

I just brought in a 2012 Road Glide for some warranty work and the 1,000 service (but it only had 630 miles).
One of the warranty issues was it has a squeak/rubbing noise in the drive belt.
I was told by the service manager at the HD dealership it was normal due to Harley had changed the material they are making the new drive belts out of.
I was told to just drive it and the noise will go away.
Has anyone else here experienced this same issue and what was the end result?

I've had my bike 2009 SG into the stealer twice already for the same squeaky noise. They hit the side of the belt w/ some emery cloth and said it would wear itself in
Well now with 4600 mi on her, every time I hit 2100 rpm, she squeaks and sounds
like you know what!!!!
I should have insisted on a new belt after the 2nd time I complained about it
At this point I guess it would be at my expense so I just stay away from 2100 and try to forget about it

It has over 2000 thousand on it now.
As cvoultrahunter suggests I may bring it to the dealer and ask for a belt replacement.

My street glide just started making a rythmic rubbing noise from the left side of the rear wheel this weekend. I also just got it back from the first service. i wonder if this is the same noise and maybe the tech adjusted my belt incorrectly or a little to tight. It is most noticable when coasting to a stop. I can actually be going downhill and shut the bike off in neutral and listen to it rub.

what did he loosen it up to? i ve my belt set right between 3/8 and a 7/16 inch play with the ten pounds of force on it and it does seem tight to me. this is on a 12 streetglide. this is what the book calls for. just seems tight to me, i can grab it and twist it 45 degrees though.
