This is correct information for at least older windshields.
If polished too deep and you go through the coating the shield "might" look ok without sun glasses. If you use polarized sun glasses the area missing the coating will be very obvious.

Save your self a lot of time. HD stock windshields suck. Buy a windshield from www.F4customs.com. I ran mine for 70K and no scratches. You can use steel wool on them and they won't scratch.

Yes...Try ...good ole GAS on a damp cloth......j/kng. I don't know the best solution, but I am sure many with this knowledge will chime in!

I remember a time gone past, in High School when a SHlLEPPard drunk in Mechanics class asked how to bring an old lawnmower to life by providing gas in the cylinder(tea spoon..we didn't say that) and pull the cord, well me and my buds gave him some sound advice on this matter, filler up with gas(the cylinder) just below the head where the plug goes in, place the spark plug beside it to see if she sparks and pull the cord..Well what da ya think he did....minutes later after the explosion, we all heard our names called to the wardens office, it was to the Principals(warden's) office for me and my friends. The School insurance covered the damage I would think and didn't care, but the drunk "Chris Finnely" had a bald spot, probably to this day. So if ya think People can't have fun, think not. This is one of the lighter stories in my life, just thought about it after the rubbing gas into the windshield joke above....PLEASE don't do that...Thanks!! Buy a new SHIELD, cheap IMO. Peace all!!

PLEXUS will polish all that **** out and leave it clear and clean. Not a polishing compound. Vapor polishing is the only way to clear a polycarbonate surface. Doubt that anyone here has ever heard of the process,or would want to pay for the equipment and chemicals.

Novus No. 1 is used for cleaning only.
Novus No. 2 is used for light scratches.
Novus No. 3 is for heavier scratches.
Always use No. 1 after using No. 2 or No. 3.
If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, it will be harder to remove. In this case, use a buffer under 800 rpm. You want to generate a little heat on the pad but you will have to keep it moving so you don't burn the shield.
Lots of Harley Stealers sell Novus. About $5-$6 a bottle. Lasts a long, long time.

I've had it for years but have not used it. It suppose to be the best Novus #1 for cleaning and shining and Novus #2 to get the scratches out if you need to.

Give me another month or two and ill tell you how #2 works. The window ( after repairing the lower section that goes over the headlight) is going back on "the pig" a 1978 1/2 FXE.

My first bike with a windshield was a repo, and had a ****-ton of scratches on the windshield. (Intential? Probably!)
Anyway, I picked up a bottle of "SlipStream" Heavy Duty Scratch Remover for about $8.00 (back in 2000).
This was s ome work, but worked GREAT!! I followed it up with Plexxus cleaner and I rode that for a few years!

BTW... there were heavy scratches on both sides of the windshield, too!

I had 2 aftermarket smoked shields laying around, covered with swirls, haze and scratches. Just for kicks I used my 3" buffer and some polish. Cleared about 90% of the junk. Topped off with a wax and both are keepers again. Don't know if this works on stock shields. I'm hoping to find a trashed one to experiment on.
