Does anyone know if there is a free map update for a Garmin? If so how do I get it? I have the 765T nuvi. Thanks, Mike

I believe you can get a free update for the first few months or forever if you bought a "LM" (lifetime maps) version. Otherwise, no, you have to buy it.

My wife has a 765LMT that includes lifetime map and traffic updates. I have a Zumo 550 that I purchased the lifetime maps for, after buying them for a couple years.

Yup, the MyGarmin site provides free updates to the OS, but not the map$.

Here's the link for your specific model updates, not for maps though as previously stated. http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/

You can usually purchase the Lifetime Maps Update package for the device even after purchase. Just check the Garmin site.

You have to have mapsource and then i think you can get free map updates through Utorrent... you will have to do a lot of leg work but you can get them.

Free map updates are normally only good in the first year after buying the unit. The lifetime maps update will cost about the same as buying two years of updates. At least it did for me when I got mine for my Nuvi 760.

go to the garmin website register your device and it will tell you if you have a free upgrade if not you can buy a lifetime update for around $70-80.

but imo its cheaper to just buy a new gps every few years as the tech changes plus some of the new ones include lifetime traffic & weather as well.
