Default Must be a Typo?

I was reading one of the article on the top of this page on brake pad replacement. The article claims touring pads must be replaced every 2000 to 3000 miles to stay safe. This must be a typo and they meant 20k to 30k? Anybody else notice that?

No but that's crazy to replace pads with 2,000 miles on them especially how expensive they are.

Must be a typo. I replace mine when the wear indicating slot is gone.

I don't replace pads on anything by mileage, go by thickness. When they're around half worn I replace them. They'll still work down to not much more than paper thin (but need more effort), but they'll get real hot fast, and I've seen pads break when they were still around 1/16th thick. Depending on use (city driving with lots of stoplights can go through pads pretty quick), 20K might be stretching it on the front; rears usually last longer; I probably change front pads 2 or 3 times more often than the rear.
