Default air shocks

i see everybody on e-bay offering these mid-west air shocks. i want to try 12" air shocks to see the real difference in height, but, don't want to spend a fortune. does anyone have these and how do you like them. is the ride any good.

I use 12" FLHX shocks on my FLHTC ( the 13"s go back on when I tour).

be aware that the shock travel is reduced by 30%- so all the absorbtion has to happen in less space and time.

and since many of your roads are not flat as glass, you may not enjoy that too much ( I'm from HFX, I know your roads).

but worth a try- my suggestion is find a local SG rider who has replaced his 12's with ohlins or progressives- take off 12's are worth under $150 used.

if is important that the oil not leak, so the take off shocks should be sealed and stored upright, if they are wet with oil, that requires draining them all the way, and putting oil in yourself. (you can find instructions on the forums)

If you use HD shocks they mount right up in minutes, same air line fittings etc....solo, I run about 7 pounds pressure in mine

the 09+ version are "revalved" for comfort over the earlier version 12"-

I bought a pair of those cheap 12" shocks, damn near broke my spine. They're stiff, and the bottom out very easily. I put my 13" stock back on, and sold the junk for half of what I paid. Lesson learned, if I'm going to go to short shocks, spend the money and buy good ones. I'm just staying with the stock shocks for now. BTW, loved the look and the handling, but the ride really sucked.

Default Shocks..

I have a stock air shock set from my 2012 RKC I may sell. I went with the shorter shocks to give me a lower seat height. They have 1,200 miles on them approx.

Our new bikes come with cheap shocks, so don't buy even cheaper! You can buy better shocks which are lower and will also give a superior ride over stock ones, if you don't mind spending the extra. You could be riding with a transformed bike!
