Default Galaxy III GPS

Hi gang, yes another GPS thread.

I have the Tom Tom Rider 2 GPS which I don't care for. In addition to being bulky, I really don't find it to be user friendly and easy to use.

I don't want to pay the high cost of a Garmin GPS. One of the senior guys here made a profound posting, I don't recall his name but he said, "How often are you actually going to use your GPS" I agree with that but for the times that I want GPS, I want one that's reliable.

I have the Galaxy III phone which I believe is awesome. However, the issue with it is battery life. If you have your datapackage on the battery will quickly drain.

Is there a charger that I can use to keep the battery charging while I'm riding? I really want to get into roadtripping but I don't want to get stranded somewhere. I'm thinking of something that'll plug into the cig lighter. I'm sure someone else out there has thought of this.

Thanks guys!

Call 3BR Power Sports. There's a plug underneath your seat that is a power port for accessories. I bought one of their cables to run under the console, and it has a USB port. I also bought one of their USB cables but you can use a standard USB cable from there.

I think they also have handlebar mounts.

Pic of cable coming out of the console and mounted to the neck. There's a USB port under the cap you see.

Pic of the connector under the seat and under the console:

It just plugs into your cig lighter, probably a few bucks max, you can get them literally anywhere - amazon, best buy, newegg, etc.

Doesnt solve your mounting problem, but it is cheap/ghetto

Amazon Amazon

I have one like this and works fine. Best part is most of the plug ins will not hit your tank when the bars are fuly turned to the left.

Another thing to remember about Smartphone GPS is that if you not in a area with data coverage you do not have maps since they are downloaded as they are needed.

Unless you buy a mapping app, or are using a Nokia Lumia 920.

That's a good point but I use TeleNav GPS Navigator that's on my android. So far, I find it dead on.

I'm thinking, just have the phone in a RAM mount; a plug from the phone into the stereo so I can actually hear the announcements and a charger from the cig lighter into the phone.

My Tom Tom is decent but limited. It has bluetooth but heck, hearing turn by turn is very difficult at 70 MPH. And, I don't find it to be as accurate as the GPS on my phone.
