Couple other reasons not to use your phone. Try and see the screen in direct sun. Waterproof?

There are Garmin's that don't cost an arm and a leg that will work much better. The nuvi 500 or nuvi 550 come to mind at about $300 retail (can be had for less if you shop around)

I still use my Galaxy S2 for GPS via the google nav. You can buy a deltran connector to plug into your battery charger pigtail right up to your phone any way you like.
Important: If you go from a cig lighter receptacle or the like to a USB plug, be sure you go with a 2 amp USB receptacle to provide enough power for your phone to run apps and charge. One amp is not enough for Android Smartphones and most tablets. You can still use 2 amp setups to charge other devices too, it will just charge them quicker. Use of the standard one amp plug will not put out enough current, resulting in more current being drawn out than going in, and your battery will not last very long.
I often ride enjoying Slacker Internet Radio, Nav app, bluetooth, and the phone still charges up to 100% during my ride.
The 2 amp USB's are out there every where, just make sure it says it on the package. Some out there are even as low as 0.5 amp, useless on smartphones and tablets.
My 2 amp USB is a dual with a little blue light to show power, way to go, from Amazon.

Why not just get an MP3 player cord and plug it into your stereo? This would charge it while using the GPS, and I believe you could also use it to play your music at the same time. All for just a couple of bucks.

Shooter, you make a valid point. But My current Tom Tom, it's very difficult seeing the screen in direct sunlight.
RAM makes a waterproof case for the phone.
I'm going to give it a try and see if I like it. I hate spending unneessarily.

By the way, have I told you all lately just have cool you all are.

I had a TomTom rider a while back.... it was terrible in direct sunlight. I have a Zumo 660 on the Glide, and a nuvi 50 in my car. I can see either screen in direct sunlight much better than the TomTom. Garmins are noted for having nice screens, and tend to not get you lost like the TomToms do.

Take your phone out in the sun and try it.

You might also want to check out Powerlet. If you need a nice mount and power, you can get it all in one place here: http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/moto...-phone-mounts/

Yep, I just had the same issue with my galaxy S3. I use it a LOT!! What I did what got a suction mount from ebay that has the suction cup that mounts to the window and I also got a cigarette charger. What I did was get a piece of the clear packing tape the exact same size as the suction on the mount. I then applied the tape to the windscreen. After that, I applied super glue to the suction cup on the mount and stuck it on the tape. I allowed it to dry and now the mount it permanently stuck to the tape on the windscreen. When I change phones or get another bike or windscreen or whatever, all I have to do is peel the tape off with the mount attached to it and its as if its no longer there. Also, I mounted it in a location that is close enough to the charger so that the cord reaches and it charges as the bike runs. oh yeah by the way, it only cost me $11 shipped for everything. If you want to see pics, pm me.

Here you go with the pics....only thing left for me to do is to trim the tape with a razor blade. i havent done it yet because its been raining here in ga, but i can tell you that its on there for good with that super glue. i took it for a ride the next day after i waited for the glue to dry completely and it held up perfectly fine. it was sunny outside and i had no problems viewing the screen or anything like that. i did add a rubber band to it though to wrap around the phone while i ride for extra security, you can see it hanging from the mount in the photos. but i can tell you, the rubber band isnt really needed.
