Default Cam Change inner bearing ??

When doing a cam upgrade; like the S&S 510G, is it really necessary to R&R the inner needle bearings ? Especially on a low mileage bike?

well, technically no. However the bearings that are in there now are known to fail alot sooner than the ones S&S use. Its just insurance!

Bearings are cheap.
Bearing failure is not.

If your already in their do it. I had my Stock Cams & bearings replaced at the 1000 mile service with S&S 510G Cams & S&S bearings. 16,000 miles latterI'm now getting ready to swap out the 510G's with a set of HQ-0039G's and I'm going to replace all the bearing with new ones again. Better to be safe then sorry.

I'd have to agree with the others, I just installed Andrews cams with S&S gear drives. Changed out the bearings and you can definitly see that the replacements have larger needle bearings over the stock ones. You will need a bearing puller and installation tool for the inner bearings. There are two different tools, one for outer and one for inner. I did'nt need one for outer but can't see how you could replace inners w/o possibly FUBAR. I bought tool from Zippers.
