Default +6 brake line not really +6.

I received my Magnum Shielding clutch and brake lines today. I ordered a +8 clutch and +6 upper brake line. I took the upper brake line out to the garage to check the length and it was too short. I checked to make sure I ordered the right line and it was. I got on the Magnum Shielding site and they show the stock length to be 19". I went to the garage and measured mine and it is over 23". I actually need the 29" line which they list as +10". Anyone else have this issue when ordering cables? I have an 08 SG non ABS bike. I am just trying to figure out how they can be so off on measurements.

Magnum is a two part line. You get the +6 upper then the other piece to the ABS module. I had to do a second order because I didn't order the second line.

I don't have ABS and I bought the lower line. I spoke with them on the phone and they said to put the upper and lower together and fit it to the bike and it should fit. They say they get their stock cable lengths from Harley so it should be right. I will see when I get home.

In your case, I would drain the old brake lines, and remove them.

Start by installing just the lower, and then check to see if the upper will be long enough, as you'll know where it needs to attach to the lower line and the MC.

Also, I presume you're dealing with DOT 4 fluid. Be careful with that stuff - it will damage paint.

I'm having the local dealership change out the bars on my '10 RKC w/ABS. They ordered a braided +6 upper brake line to fit my khromewerks 2+2 sweepers. After the cable came in, I took the bike to them and waited to ride it home. With the new bars on, they were putting it all back together only to find, the cable was too short. Now they say they should be able to get the proper cable and have it ready for me to pick up this Friday.

I'm baffled as to why a cable that is supposed to be 6" longer than stock does not fit bars that are advertised as 4" longer than stock.

I figured it out! Magnum Shielding shows the stock upper brake line to be 19" per H.D. but that is just the length of the line between the fittings. Magnum measures their lines from tip to tip so it is actually only a couple inches longer. I am going to call them in the morning to let them know whats up. I just can't believe this has not been caught before. So, if you are going to order an upper brake line from them don't assume they have the correct info!

Just got off the phone with Magnum Shielding. They admitted that they do not measure their cables the same way Harley does. If you order an upper brake line through Magnum be aware that their measurements are not right. If you want +6 you better order +10! My clutch and lower brake line were fine and great quality but I hope they correct their info on their brake lines.
