Default Is It Worth It...Opinions

2012 FLHX.Fuel Moto PowerVision.5000 miles. I'm ready for some cams. SE 255's or 204's haven't quite made up my mind. Installing them myself would not be a problem. But I still have 18 months left on my warranty and the service guy quoted me $320 labor for the install and no warranty issues at my dealership. Is the $320 labor worth it to keep my motor covered without any problems for another year and a half ?

If you can do the job competently, do it, I believe the failure would have to be due to the work you did to void the warranty. But $320 ain't a whole lot of money in my mind.

Does the charge include install plus tuning the PV to match the cam? If so doesn't sound a lot of money to me, about 4 hours labour?

For $320 I would let them do it.

Have you considered the 254se cam. Quicker Cam and having had both the 255 in a 07 CVO Road King and 254 in my current 11 FLHX i prefer the 254. My dyno chart can be found in the garage. I love the quick response of running 0-90 right now

I would go with Woods 555 cams.

No. The $320 doesn't include the tune, I would get a base tune from Jamie @ Fuel Moto and tweek it myself from there. Was going to stick with a SE cam if I have them do the work. BTW... thanks for giving me another cam to think about after I'd narrowed it down to 2 . I'm 50-50 2 up and this bike rarely, if ever, sees the north side of 4500 RPM.

And I know this is ridiculous, but damn, I love the idle of a 103 with a SE 204.

Let the D/S do it for that price.

You'll want to think about compression releases with the SE cams. My brother has a 103 kit (HD jugs and 103 cast pistons) with a SE204 and it cranks OK when cold, but when hot it cranks slow, real slow. (The bike does run nice)

You might look at the TW-222 as an alternative to the SE255 or SE204. Better torque curves than the SE cams and better CCP for starting.

I do agree with you though, the SE204 has a great sounding idle!

Good luck
