Default Switching Back to the OEM Horn

I bought a 2007 Street Glide last year and it had the Harley Davidson air horn on it. I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't like it and want to put an OEM horn and cowbell cover on.

There is a ton of posts here about taking the OEM horn off and puting a different horn on, but can I use the wiring that is in place for the air horn for the OEM horn? I'd prefer not to remove the tank if it can be avoided. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm in a bigger minority...I don't change things like the horn!

I hear ya, but that's the way the bike came and the air horn isn't working anyway.

Should be an easy transition back to OEM horn, just depends on how it was wired.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Step 1 - Take off air horn
Step 2 - Connect OEM horn
Step 3 - Drink beer(s)

Don't get hung up on following the exact order of the steps, sometimes I like to start with the last one.
The OEM uses two wires, black and Black w/yellow stripe with sidewise flag terminals, female. If you got those two wires still in tact it should be a plug n play.

You need to check and ensure that the current wiring actually has voltage on it when you press and hold the horn button. That may be why the air horn is now working. If there is no voltage at the horn, then you need to trace it back to the relay. It's a good bet that a spade terminal or two might be loose or separated. But if there is voltage getting to the air horn, then the OEM will work fine with those same supply wires.

The air horn gives a low, retarded little moan when I hit the button so there is some juice in the wires. I'll check the relays to be sure. Hopefully it is as fabrik8r says and it is simply plug and play. Worst case it gives me a project while its 20 friggin' degrees outside.

LOL! I kinda have the same problem only its my fault. I bought that damn Harley Air Horn and paid WAY TO MUCH for the piece of crap. Harley doesnt even sell it anymore and just about any reference to it in the Dealer Parts database has been purged! Fortunately my Extended Warranty reimbursed me for what I paid for it after replacing three of them. The last one, not working, is still mounted on my StreetGlide and I want to do the same thing. Reverse engineer this piece of plastic chrome crap OFF the bike and put the OEM horn back on.

I got a horn and cover on eBay for $25 so I figured it is worth a try. When I bought the bike the horn worked, but was never as loud as I thought it should be. Then during a simple 2,500 mile trip to New Mexico and back and the horn goes almost completely out. WTF?!?
