Default 2010 Street Glide: No Sound

My Gf's dad just replaced the stock radio with an aftermarket one. The reason was because the old stereo's audio would cut in and out a lot. New stereo is in and he is content with the improved sound. The next day he went to turn the stereo on and it's doing the same thing as the stock stereo. Everything turns on but there is no audio. You can hear the beeps when you hit the buttons and that's all. Any suggestions? He is taking it back in a few days but just wanted to see if anyone has experienced something like this.

check to see if he gets

am

fm

cd

aux in

are all of them dead or just, for instance, the radio, in which case it could be as simple as the antenna hook up.

maybe provide details on what new stuff was used.

We tried the FM stations, the satellite radio, and a CD. All of which had worked before. The new stereo is a Kenwood exelon 996. The antenna is hooked up and the speakers are hooked up.

There are 2 fuses for the radio. One for power and one for memory. check both of the fuses.

I'll have him check the fuses. We do hear the loud beeps coming from the speakers when we hit the source button. I also hear a low static sound if I listen with my ear up to the speaker. The stereo turns on but we just have no sound. This is the same thing it was doing with the factory stereo. When he rode home the stereo was working great, he was happy that it sounded better.

Sounds like the speaker wires could be shorting, either to each other or to ground. I'd take the fairing off and start gently jiggling wires.

I am assuming you have a display and that the unit is powered up.

Yes, the unit is powered up and we have a display. Took the fairing off and made sure everything was plugged in. Everything looks fine. The only thing we hear are the beeps (from the speakers) the stereo makes and a low hissing from the speakers. I think he's taking it in today so I'll post the fix if it does get fixed.

Well, they had him insert a paper clip into the reset hole on the head unit and it worked after that. Hopefully it's not something that happens all the time and needs to be reset often.
