RaceFace glad to hear you're back on the road. Yes a backrest! It a allows any of your "leaning back" weight to be placed onto your back vs your arms amd shoulders. Now, you're holding yourself up by gripping and pulling on the bars. With a backrest that's gone and your hands are just simply rest on your bars while the backrest does all the work. Get a backrest on there and give it one hard acceleration - you'll know what I mean
Pick one up of eBay - if you don't like it you won't lose any coin.
Ride safe.
Yeah, but don't I need to buy a seat that is built for a backrest? I dig my seat!!

Eh true! Maybe you could find a backrest to borrow, then hit the dealer for the "demo seat" program. A borrowed backrest, demo'd seat, at least you'd know if it would help.
I've got a seat you could borrow but shipping would be a bitch!

These things have a way of cascading horribly out of control. Before its over, I wouldnt be surprised if you needed new pistons to help your shoulder pain, LOL

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You are SOOOOO right on that one!!! A harley is definitely a slippery slope!!
I put the back rest on 8 months ago and the apes on about 2 months ago. I love my 14" Bagger apes. Got rid of any pain in the elbows and between the shoulder blades. Combined with the back rest it's a great ride. But in your case I think cams, ported heads and a 113" kit should cure the shoulder pain... Sorry I couldn't resist!
I think after reading some of the replies, my back problems are related to not enough power! ****!! And here I thought getting rid of my boat and getting a bike would save me money!! I have NO idea what I was thinking!! LOL!!
