Original compensator in 2010 FLHTK
#12
I have a 2010 road glide 96". Started making unusual noise at about 22,000 miles one evening in a ride across Death Valley. A real attention getter. Drove it back to Texas and had it changed out under warranty. Did upgrade to SE compensator, but this is all that is available now by my understanding. I would like to know if I should have changed out the lefty primary bearing also at this time.

I just had Andrews 54 cams installed just before Christmas and the clutch started slipping. Well we thought it was the clutch, turns out to be sticking cable. Anyway while checking the clutch basket, we checked the IPB and sure enough, it was maken some grinding noise when turned by hand. Not enough to here with engine running. Also, the SE comp showed some wear. Tore it apart and found one of the compression washers in backward, thanks to Texan Harley in Conroe TX. We fixed that as well. Now waiting on new clutch cable and Hayden M6-BT07 chain tenisioner.

I know that this topic may have been covered somewhere, but for those who still ride their touring bikes with the original compensator (not the SE compensator).
Please share your bike model and mileage, as I still don't see why I need to replace my compensator at this time, or anytime soon.
Mine is 2010 Ultra Limited / ~40000 miles
Thanks!

Thanks all for the info.
Not that I care about replacing my stock compensator at this time, as my bike is approaching 40K miles, and I don't have any noise that draws my notice. Shifting smooth and run smooth. I will ride with the stock comp. for awhile for now.
But then my trip is long (10K average), and there is a good sale, so I decide to order a kit of SE compensator for $207 and a chain adjuster for $77 for next summer ride.
I think I will be OK for awhile after this upgrade.
