i recently did the nod and it was a little tricky, First of all those ones kinda look look like a half circle so your have to put them on the right way or they will not fit. Min seemed like they did not go down as far and the stock ones but it looks like a optical illusion i think with the light. The problem i had was they little switches can move past a metal tab in the the houseing of the control clam shells. I ran into that problem, its a small metal flange that it buts up against and it it isnt in just right the entire switch will just push all the way back. I dont think yo broke the swtich because it is pretty hardy the end is made of metal and not plastic. I hope this helps!
By the way, since you recently did this, a friend was telling me the right side was tricky due to something with the front brake lever switch. I have not done the right yet and was wondering if you had any tips/pointers. Thanks!
I've never put a set on but I know my indy hates installing them. When I showed up with a set when I droped the bike off for an oil change, he just shook his head & rolled his eyes. If looks could kill, I'd have been in big trouble!
I agree about the copper pieces. I think you should have tried without the them initially.
If you've only killed one you might be able to ask the service department if they have one sitting around. I bet they screw up once in a while in the shop and end up with extras.
Right. The instructions said that if the OEM black pieces had clips in them then to use the supplied copper clips. My black pieces appear to have them, so I just went for it...

Haha...I know that guy's feeling. What I thought would take about an hour ended up being more like three...on one side Of course, I spent some of that time cursing and dumbfounded.

The brake lever rests against the brake switch, which is sealed in rubber. When re-installing the brake lever it is easy to damage the brake switch. Here is the trick: Get a matchbook, pull on brake lever, stick matchbook into the space created from pulling, and let go of the brake lever. This will keep the brake lever from going all the way back to it's natural position. Thus saving the brake switch on re-installation. Now you can remove the brake lever assembly from the bars and make sure the matchbook stays there until everything is back together.
If you can't find a matchbook then fold some cardboard a few times.
Funny FixMyHog.com just posted a video on it. It's on their subscription side but might be worth it to watch. They are doing a discount on annual subs with coupon code: HDF30 and monthly is only $6.99, better that $90/hr to install $50 switches.

Thanks, I'm trying to get signed up, but the international portion is not working! I've emailed them and hoping they can get it sorted out.
I had the same issue. With a little patience and a good amount of thumb pressure, I got them to work. Seems like everyone of those things are a bit different! It's a great look when its done though! As was said earlier, the brake lever has a little "cup" in it where it contacts the internal switch. You never want to move it laterally without disengaging that "cup", or it can break the switch. If you take a close look at it with a light you will see what I'm talking about. This comes in handy if you ever want to change your levers. It's acually a piece of cake once you see how it works
