Default 1000 mile service question for DIY'ers ...

Guys, bought the service manual for my 06 SG. Have decided to do my own service. Last new bike service was only 1 hr at the dealer so I know it didnt ALL get done by the book, plus I got a nice chip in my fender. So, on this bike, going to try it myself. May take all day, but the satisfaction will be worth it. After looking through the manual, got a few general questions..
Materials to buy in advance: 4 qts of oil (changing to Mobil 1 Vtwin 20/50 I think)
HD Chrome oil filter
o-ring for drain plug(cheap insurance)
32oz(1 qt) of Formula+ for the primary
oring for drain plug
derby cover gasket
inspection cover gasket
20-24oz of Mobil 1 75/90 syn gear oil for trans
oring for drain plug
Does this sound good so far? Wondering about the steering head grease and cable lube.. Harley stuff or? Does people and the dealer ACTUALLY ltake apart and lube the cables? What about going through the clutch adjustment proceedure? Do they do it per book or just check cable adjustment and go on?
Lastly, tools.. Looks like I will need to buy a filter wrench, a T25 and T27 torx socket, and a torque wrench. Is there a 1 wrench will do all or do I need both a smaller in/lbs one and a bigger ft/lbs one? Just do the may and use one maybe? What about a belt gauge? Another way to measure?
Time to get to know the bike better I guess. What kind of check list does people use? Make a copy of the book?
thanks alot for any insight or advice before I get going..

Take your time you will be fine and know its done right . As far as the torque wrench I have both inch and foot lbs. but you can get foot lbs wrench that starts and very low amount and do the conversion.

The bearings on my axles are sealed bearings. But if you want to grease yours up go ahead.

I think he is referring to the anti-seize compound to go on the axle shaft to keep it from corroding and sticking to the hub.

You don't need to remove the axles or wheels with any scheduled service, unless you find a problem. When you remove the wheel to replace the tires you should apply a thin coat of anti-sieze compound to the axle to keep it from rusting and jamming to the hub. The only time you should need to remove either wheel is when the tire needs replacing or have a bad bearing, the latter not likely for many miles and years of riding. If you have an older pre-sealed-bearing bike the bearings need to be packed every 10k, according to the schudule, although I did it on both wheels every time I replaced the rear tire, about every 12k miles. I really miss this pleasant bonding experience with the bike! Yeah, right.

this is the most critical service for your bike...I would let a professional tech do it...if you miss something and have a problem later on you may have a warranty issue...it's your coin...penny wise...pound foolish?
