Speaking of breaking oil filter wrenches. I started using the K&N oil filters. They have a 7/8" nut. You don't need the cheap HD filter wrench. Designed for the new synthetic oils, come in chrome and black, good quality. Part number is KN-171C (chrome)

I've learned that lesson over 34 yrs ago.

Make sure you can LOOSEN the bolt where you insert the oil, before you pull the drain bolt and drain the oil.
Saves many headaches.

What you need to use to break them loose is an impact driver. I learned this 25 years ago. For those who do not know what this is, it's a driver with a 3/8 drive square to put you driver bit on. Fit it to the fastener and hit it with a hammer. Breaks them loose every time.

You beat me to it man, this is exactly the tool to use. Best tool in my tool box.

I think this was just an excuse to buy more chrome for his scoot.

You can never have enough chrome...Mmmmm chrome[sm=yikesomg.gif]

That sucks azz!!!I just changed the eng oil on mine and broke the taiwan HD oil filter adapter, thanx to the HD ape who installed the filter.Went to HD and they would only replace it with the same junk.I took the whole housing/filter off together because i bought a chrome one.The book says hand tighten only.1/2 to 1/4 turn after gasket contact!!!WTF[:@]
Same here, the jap oil filter hex tool, that fits over the end of the filter,I bought from HD just stretched and spun on the filter. The mechanic must have been pissed about something when he tightened that oil filter.
Had to remove the regulator and used a strap wrench to get the filter off.
Replaced the oil filter with a K&N 171-c with the hex head on the end, now a socket works quite well

I had the same problems when I did mine. Broke a sears T27 socket and a T27 screwdriver handle and rounded 1 of the 5 screws. Didn't even bother trying the easy out, I just drilled the head off and took the stub out w/ vice grips.

I swear, the "inspected by" sticker was signed by A. Gorilla
