How my Harley touring bike made me and the wife some money.

...I don't know..I would have stayed off the bike and used the car...if we can assume by car you would've averaged 25mpg, using your numbers..you would have payed about(not exactly, but ballpark), $2856 in gas, instead of $1800...an extra $1000. By racking up 20,000 plus miles in that short a time, on that bike, you probably depreciated it $2000...ya I know..WGAF..right?...not trying to bust em..just sayin..of course there is something to be said about the fun riding the bike as opposed to being in the cage...

It's all in how you figure things.

The best part of this post was the identification of the reliability of the HD bike.
Most of us know and experience the same result. But too many on this forum are so negative and grip long and often about problems, quality and the MOCO.
The reality is that a good guess on their problems is that they abuse the bike. The ride it like you stole it crowd. The wheelie launchers and those with high performance mods.
Ride the bike like this long commuting example and the bike will reward the owner with outstanding performance.
Not enough post on this topic. The negative crowd is always ready to scream.

I travel for work full time(construction super) and live in my trailer in the parking lot of the job. It basically sucks... but putting the $150 a day (lodging per-diem) in my pocket seriously upgrades my income (and it's tax free!).
Cheers to all you road-warriors.
