Default 6 speed transmissions ... gear indicator

So I just picked up my new 2013 Ultra Classic and have been riding it just a few days. I've noticed that when you shift into 6th gear there' s an idiot light that comes on in the speedo. What I've noticed is that it will flash, go off and then after a few minutes it will come back on. I also have the gear indicator installed on my bike and it does not show the bike in 6th gear until the idiot light comes back on.

I was wondering if this is common in the 6-speed transmissions. I have a Baker F6R on my bike but my wife's 2009 Heritage Deluxe does the same thing and her bike is using a stock H-D tranny.

Being new to Harley's I was just wondering if this is something I need to address with the service dept at my dealer. Thanks for reading this and any comments.

Certain conditions cause the light to go off such as pulling in the clutch, etc etc

Default Me too!

Yeah, when I'm in 6th gear, the little green 6 comes on and stays on until I downshift.
I wonder if the gear indicator accessory is somehow having a negative effect on the one in the speedo?

Solid light as above. Good luck figuring it out.

As others have stated, 6th gear green light on all the time while in that gear. You may have a short or a bad gear position indicator lamp, etc. In any case, it is under warranty I am assuming. Have HD fix it.

Sounds like a short in the gear position sensor, and your bike is new, take it to the Dealer

The 6th gear indicator in the speedo is controlled by the ECU, it compares speed vs RPMs to turn on the light, that's why it goes out if you pull in the clutch.
