Take it to work with me...20 mile r/t. Bought the case from AGRussell, Maxpedition Hard Use gear...so far so good (Dell XPS M140).

My laptop/brief case fits perfectly in my saddlebag. Allows me to ride to work.

Works great if you have a soft bag to put it in. Read the news in the local greasy spoon (many with wifi now) and then log on at night in the hotel. Have at 'er. That's why it's a portable.

I know one guy who has his hooked up to the bike plugged into cig lighter and then hooked up to his GPS unit. Ironbutt rider travels 10,000 miles trips and uses that as his sole navigation system.

Depends on what the purpose of the trip is.

Just work, throw the whole laptop bag in either the saddlebag or tourpack. On a major run, I have a smaller padded case that I reinforce with a piece of plywood to avoid flexing the LCD screen. Then I wrap the whole thing in a Hefty bag to reduce moisture issues. And the preferred hauling place is on top in the tourpack.

Hauled it to Sturgis and back one year. About 6600 miles on that trip.

I can see taking a laptop on the road. Besides E-Mail, and drirections, checking on hotel room availability and rates would be an asset. Seems I always get better rates on line then just walking up to the counter.

I carry mine with me everyday to work on different bikes with a tour pak on top. I do 130 miles a day round trip. I have also taken it with me on a 6500 mile trip cross country and it survived fine.

I use it for trip planning as well as business while on the road.

If I ever bring it with me I use an over the shoulder laptop carrying bag. Works great. I rarely bring it with me.
Can't believe a post ***** doesn't bring his laptop on the bike with him I thought I saw you in the rest area the other day checking how many people replied to "burly"
