To all who have added floating rotors to their baggers, are you just putting them on the front or are you also doing the rear wheel? I guess before I start making it go faster, I should make it stop faster.
Doug, did the rotors make your bike stop better? Mine don't squeal but I would like to change them if it is a performance upgrade.
If they did, the difference was minimal. The only reason that I put the floaters on was to get rid of the squeal. Initially I tried replacing the pads only with Lyndall Z pads. They made the squeal go away, but only for about 100 miles or so. Then the squeal came back with a vengeance. Then I put on the floaters and the squeal has been gone ever since (about 1000 miles so far).
As for stopping better, I didn't notice much difference.
i did the front only....i am a big guy and i push the *** of the bike down so low that you cant see anything back there anyhow, mianly did it for the look (stock rotors arevery honda lookin to me) plust the stockers are a bit noisy for my taste. plus...they matchedmy forks
I replaced front and rear rotors on my '05 Road King Classic with floating rotors. I kept the OEM pads for now, but will replace them eventually with the Lyndall Z Plus pads. There is a noticably better braking effort front and rear with less pressure. I too tend to drive hard and have the old desert racer's habit of driving with two fingers hooked over the front brake lever most of the time. I wanted my braking effort from those two fingers to be as good as using four fingers on the OEM brakes. I think I got it.
The floating rotors have no sound developement whatsoever after about 1k miles. .......... BC
Ask yourself why racebikes have full floating discs on them...at least on the front. Ihave never seen them on the back, but i guess it could be done...
