Default nail in tire

I have an 06 ultra with spoked rims. I have gotten the forbidden nail in rear tire and has gone in far enough to hit the tube. The position of nail is in the groove of the tread. I just had this tire put on 4 weeks ago ( pissed is understatement)
Dealer is telling me I will need to have a new tire installed again. I would like your guys opinion on this. I know there is a lot riding on the tire safety wise but this just seams like a quick way to get a new tire. Any thought appreciated
Thanks

tire is stock dunlop

In my experience, dealers won't or are not allowed to repair a tire. I would pull out the nail and install a new tube and ride.

I would also put a patch on the inside of the tire to smooth out any rough area to prevent new tube damage.

Patch the inside of the tire, the tube will try to escape threw the nail hole. Then re-place tube and ride.

Chunker you beat me to it

I picked up a nail on a rear tire with less than 300 miles so I feel your pain. My tire is tubeless and the dealer actually patched it. They patched it on the inside and had me look at it while it was dismounted. I'm comfortable with the repair but I probably will replace it a little earlier than normal when the time comes. The Dunlop website endorses some repairs in motorcycle tires. If I were you, I would consider having it patched on the inside and replace the tube.

If there aren't more than a few severed cords, I'd patch the tire and install a new tube. Don't feel TOO bad about the nail in your still-inflated tire. In the old days, I had tube tires go flat out out in the middle of nowhere and a couple of instant blowouts in freeway traffic. I packed tire irons, patches and pump when I rode out of town. In '85, I bought a set of Lester mags for my BMW R100S and swore I'd never run tube tires on a road bike again.
