I guess I will ask here. Suppose you put a B motor in a rubber mount frame, would that smooth out the idle shake and then be even smoother under power? Could that be the best of both worlds?

Has anyone done this?

Wont fit. B motor is way different and quite a bit larger. THAT is why the softails have an 'oil bag' and not an oil pan like A motors do. Google some pics of an A motor and a B motor. Those counter balancers take up some real live real estate. Why would shaking at idle bother anyone? I have had both and prefer A motors. Those counterbalancers sure are noisy and don't NOT work all that well after a full day of riding.

+1......

I have bikes with both motors. The A motor is very smooth at anything but idle and after a long day in the saddle, I much prefer the A motor.

It wasn't until I got my touring bike that I noticed the "buzzing" feeling of the B motor counter-balancers at highway cruising RPMs.

While I've done numerous long rides on my softail in the past, the touring bike is much more comfortable and will be my long-ride bike in the future.

Just an added clarification so people do not think the A has a wet sump. The A does have an oil bag. It's on the bottom of the transmission, not engine and totally divided from the transmission and engine except for the two internal oil lines to the engine dual stage oil pump. The Softail shocks are in the way of having the oil bag on the bottom of the transmission.
