http://www.engineersedge.com/calcula...orque_calc.htm

So....the difference of max torques suggested is 38 inch lbs. or 3 ft. lbs. additional torque.
The difference in clamping force 3120 ft. lbs - 2400 ft.lbs = 720ft.lbs / 3 ft. lbs = 240 ft.lbs more , which is only 2.4 % .
Bolt torques weather grade 5 or grade 8 are rated at only 80% of their value.
You will be ok at the higher torque given..........which is all just a pinch of **** !

I need more pics of the bike in your sig plz!

Very nice! There is almost always a reasonable solution if you look in the right place for the answer. Excellent research.

Exactly! Just because fasteners are the same size doesn't mean they require the same torque. Engineers actually spend some time figuring these things out.

If they have to drop their bike off to have the oil changed, most likely don't know what torque is anyway! ;-)

I think the guy is wise to question it. Would not be the 1st typo in a manual. Those that leaped on the guy, Yep Midol might be the answer!

I know some engineers, and I know some arrogant engineers, I can easily see a new engineer stepping in beating his chest and changing a torque value to show his worth. Most all of our 1/4-20 bolts for covers in non-pressurized situations are 130 inch pounds. We have not been around as long as Harley but we have been around long enough to teach some of their snot nosed engineers on a budget how it's done. Just my arrogant 2 cents.
